Colorado state prison library services are provided through a partnership between the Colorado Department of Education and the Colorado Department of Corrections. The CDE’s website states: “In keeping with the public library model of patron services, our library collections represent diverse points of view in a variety of accessible formats, as well as a variety of public library-style programs to serve the unique needs of our library users.”
From the Colorado Department of Education ILD website: The Institutional Library Development (ILD) unit addresses the needs of approximately 30,000 Colorado citizens residing in 40 state-funded institutions. Our mission is to provide the leadership and expertise that Colorado’s state institutional libraries need to meaningfully impact the lives of users, their families, and their communities. Our vision is to provide every institutionalized person with the information needed for self-empowerment.
