Information about Mason County

Mason County was formed out of Thurston County on April 15, 1854. It was originally named Sawamish County. The name was changed to Mason County in 1864. It was named in honor of C.W. Mason, the secretary to the first Territorial Governor, Isaac I. Stevens. The county seat is Shelton.
