WSL Teen Internship Grant Program
Supported by funding provided by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the Library Services and Technology Act, through the Washington State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
All designated library mentors will be required to participate in training, professional development, and a community of practice. See below for Lead Mentor expectations.
1. Participate in self-directed Transforming Teen Services training and Mentorship training between March-May 2025. Attend live synchronous meetings to process and discuss learnings with the cohort of grantees. This training will be scheduled and more details will be available once grantees are selected. Stay tuned for more information!
2. Complete regular check-ins and reports to let us know how things are going. We'll want to know what is going well, what challenges you're facing, and how spending your budget is going. The Washington State Library will provide surveys for reporting and schedule synchronous virtual meetings to check in throughout the grant.
3. Create a schedule with your intern, taking into account that there will need to be time set aside to work on a Connected Learning project. This schedule should work for both the intern and the library.
4. Be actively involved in your teen's internship. You will provide guidance, leadership, mentoring, and co-design support. You must have time in your busy summer schedule to spend working one-on-one with your intern. You are welcome to have other library staff help out, but make sure you're involved in designing a meaningful internship experience for your mentee.
5. Connect your intern with other community members who can help them be successful with their Connected Learning project. For example, if your teen is interested in creating a library podcast, you could connect them with a local radio station to learn about recording equipment and microphones!
