Supported by funding provided by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the Library Services and Technology Act, through the Washington State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

Application

Who Should Apply?

  • Public and Tribal Libraries located in Washington State.
  • Libraries who plan to share this resource with community partners and in outreach efforts.
  • Libraries who are committed to making a welcoming space for all of the people in their community and/or helping their patrons become more understanding and empathetic of experiences beyond their own.
  • Libraries that serve a communities with high percentages of new Americans, immigrants, refugees, people who speak languages other than English at home. 
  • Libraries with patrons who could benefit from learning about the experiences of their neighbors.
  • Libraries that would benefit from having a permanent Welcoming Library in their collection to use in various ways for an extended period of time.

    *At this time, School Libraries are not eligible to apply for this grant, but grant recipients will be highly encouraged to share this resource with their local schools! The Washington State Library is also planning on acquiring 1-2 Welcoming Libraries that can be circulated for short visits to public, tribal, and school libraries on a first-come-first-serve basis.
