When digitizing materials, the goal is to create a digital surrogate that is as close as possible to the original item. Digitization should be done with high enough specifications that it captures all the pertinent information in the item (e.g. details in a photo, audio from a cassette). It may not always be possible to digitize the item again in the future if it's discovered that the item was not originally digitized at a high enough quality.
Washington State Library staff can provide training on reformatting materials for inclusion on Washington Rural Heritage. See the scanner instructions for a detailed workflow for creating master files for Washington Rural Heritage.
