What is Tabletop Role-Playing Games for All?

WSL and Tabletop Role-Playing Games for All:

The Washington State Library is working to support libraries in planning and implementing Tabletop Role-Playing Game (TTRPG) programming in their libraries by providing grants, trainings, and more. We hope to support inclusive gaming in libraries by giving you all the resources and skills you need to bring TTRPGs into your communities. This LibGuide will serve as a landing page for these projects as they launch.

What is a Tabletop Role-Playing Game?:

Tabletop Role-Playing Games (TTRPGs) are interactive collective storytelling games played by groups of people, usually led by a Game Master. Players are able to immerse themselves in a world and character of their creation, problem-solve, collaborate with their friends, and direct the story themselves! You've probably heard of Dungeons & Dragons, but there are countless TTRPGs set in many different worlds and with many different mechanics.

Why Should Tabletop Role-Playing Games Be in Libraries?

Libraries and TTRPGs are a perfect match! As centers of informal and interest-led learning, social engagement, and fun, libraries are uniquely positioned to bring people together around games. Games can be played with kids, teens, grownups, intergenerational groups, and people of all abilities. With the right resources, it's not hard to get a game going hosted by the library! We hope, through this project, to make gaming programs accessible to all of Washington.
