Washington State Library Presents: Tabletop Role-Playing Games for All!

TTRPG Mini Grants

Every public, tribal, and community college library in Washington State is invited to submit an application for a non-competitive Tabletop Role-Playing Games for All Mini Grant. Please coordinate within your system and submit only one application per system. Before filling out the application, make sure you're the only one applying for your library!

Grant Basics: 
--$400 per library system/standalone library (not per branch)
--Non-Competitive (Every library who successfully completes an application will be awarded a grant)
--Reimbursement grant (allowable costs will be reimbursed by WSL after recipients submit claim forms and acceptable documentation).
--In addition to funds, each library that indicates they would like one will receive a kit courtesy Wizards of the Coast while supplies last. These kits contain:

  • Organizer instructions
  • Two (2) Learn to Play D&D DM Guides
  • Two (2) Learn to Play D&D demo encounter cards
  • Two (2) character packs, each containing five (5) ready to play characters
  • One (1) How to Start a D&D Club Guide
  • Two (2) Turn Reference sheets
  • Two (2) Stormwreck Story Trackers
  • "D&D Played Here" poster
  • Twenty (20) flyers to give away to players
  • One (1) D&D Starter Set: Dragons of Stormwreck Isle



Allowable Expenses:

--Books
--Games
--Supplies (resin molds, mini-figures, paint, maps, printing, laminating, etc.) 
--Program facilitation (DM/GMs, staff training, workshop leaders, etc.)
--Subscription/digital TTRPG services
--Staff hours for additional project-related hours for part-time staff

Not Allowable:
--Food
--Incentives
--Giveaways for patron home libraries
--Paying staff for regularly scheduled hours

TTRPG Innovation Grants

Public, tribal, and community college libraries in Washington State are invited to submit applications for a competitive Tabletop Role-Playing Games Innovation Grant. Library systems are welcome to apply for both the TTRPG Mini and Innovation grants.

Grant Basics: 
--Up to $2,000 per selected applicant
--Applications will be assessed on a rubric by a WSL committee
--Competitive ($6,000 total in awarded funding)
--Designed for bigger projects with innovative or larger scale ways of using funding to integrate TTRPGs into library services
--Reimbursement grant (allowable costs will be reimbursed by WSL after recipients submit claim forms and acceptable documentation).

Example Ideas:
--Teen TTRPG Internships (pay teens to run games or build adventures, etc.)
--Partner with specific community groups (for example, hosting games in languages other than English or bringing TTRPGs to a local senior center)
--Facilitate patrons designing their own games
--Silk-screening machine to create your own TTRPG materials
--...anything you can imagine!

Selection Criteria:
Priority will be given to applicants who:
--Complete the application thoughtfully and thoroughly
--Remove barriers to TTRPGs for their community
--Focus on increasing equity, diversity, and/or accessibility
--Plan and co-design with community partners
--Think outside the box
--Demonstrate potential outcomes and impact
