WSL | Federal Library Funding in Washington

Federal funds are provided through the Institute of Museum of Library Services (IMLS) in support of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grants to States Program.

Training and Consulting

Libraries across the state look to WSL as a wellspring of expertise and experience, and WSL consults with libraries in all areas of need.

    • Federal funds cover 0.5 FTE ($65,000) for a public library consultant that provides consultation, training, and support for library directors, boards, trustees, and library friends groups.

 

WSL offers extensive training for librarians, staff, directors, boards, and trustees through Library Development staff, world-class contracted trainers, and resources like OCLC’s WebJunction. Funding also provides for grants to help librarians attend conferences, bring in trainers, and support onsite staff training.

    • Federal funds cover the administrative costs for the training program ($115,000/year).
    • Federal funds also cover the 2 statewide on-demand training platforms: WebJunction ($13,300/year) and the Niche Academy ($27,000/year).
