WSL | Federal Library Funding in Washington

Federal funds are provided through the Institute of Museum of Library Services (IMLS) in support of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grants to States Program.

Broadband Support for Libraries

The LibTech program is a first-in-the-nation consortium of mostly small and rural libraries. LibTech provides increased bandwidth size and speed to underserved libraries around the state. This program relies on a mixture of IMLS funding for administration and subsidies, along with local library funding and federal E-Rate discounts.

What does this cost?

  • Federal funds from IMLS cover $220,000/year in administration, including a dedicated E-Rate consultant.
  • Federal funds from IMLS cover $200,000/year in subsidies to help make this service affordable to small libraries.
